I ever had !!I feel for your dismay, but i'm sure that now you will save your work every day, as i do, it's the only way to keep your work in the computer. Never say die and good cheer thereafter !!
hey man, if its not making too much noise, then all might not be lost. you can take the harddrive out of the computer and put it in one of those USB external harddrive enclosures, hook it up to another PC, and use a program called "get data back" either for NTFS or FAT depending on how it was formatted. I've done this dozens of times for people. the harddrive needs to be really fucked up for this not to work. let me know if you need more info, i would be happy to help you. also, i can post my basic back up strategy that i use, although by this point i'll bet you have one lined up.
Hubby just told me that there are companies that specialize in data recovery. They go through your computer sector by sector and can often recover your files.
That is awful, I've had to do recovery for several people so I know it's rare that the HDD is totally dead. Still I hate hearing stories like this, and why I have 2 backups of everything and do them almost daily.

I know it won't help now, but I am a firm believer in external hard drives. I have about 3 of them and back up work I can't afford to lose to them all the time.
I'm not as good about backing up my system as I should be, but the work is stored in several locations at once.

I just backed mine up last week but I guess that doesn't cheer you up any.

Hubby also said you could do it with another computer hooked up to yours...something about a master and a slave!
